PROGRAM STRUCTURE

Stage I. | October 2026
2 Online Seminars

Stage I establishes the artistic and discursive foundations of the residency.

Participants present their practices, methodologies, selected works, current projects, and central questions through live demonstrations, recordings, scores, texts, archival materials, diagrams, or rehearsal documentation.

The emphasis is on articulation and contextualization. Participants identify the genealogies, technical procedures, institutional conditions, linguistic materials, ensemble structures, and assumptions informing their work. SOURCE, SUBSTANCE, AND STRUCTURE are introduced as shared analytical fields.

Each presentation is followed by discussion and Q&A. The objective is to clarify how key terms function within different practices. By the end of Stage I, participants identify questions requiring research, practical testing, or methodological development and begin shaping a public presentation.

Stage I includes:

– two online seminars;

– presentation of artistic practices and methodologies;

– introduction of selected works and current projects;

– discussion of historical, technical, linguistic, and institutional contexts;

– identification of central artistic and research questions;

– peer and mentor feedback;

– Q&A.

Stage II. | December 2026
2 Online Seminars

Stage II centers on critical inquiry and practice-led experimentation.

Participants return with revised questions, developed materials, recordings, texts, scores, vocal studies, rehearsal documentation, archival findings, or compositional propositions.

Practice functions as a method of investigation. Participants may vary a vocal procedure, compare modes of coordination, test notation against oral instruction, reorganize spatial relations, reconstruct a historical technique, examine language as sound, or analyze technological mediation.

Collective listening addresses timbre, articulation, intonation, balance, text, duration, density, gesture, spatialization, ensemble behavior, and formal coherence. Participants are encouraged to distinguish observation, interpretation, and evaluation.

Stage II also examines what documentation should preserve, which medium is adequate, what each format excludes, and how consent, attribution, and context are addressed. Each project concludes this stage with a provisional format for Bled and defined artistic, technical, spatial, and logistical requirements.

Stage II includes:

– two online seminars;

– presentation of developed project materials;

– critical inquiry into SOURCE, SUBSTANCE, AND STRUCTURE;

– practice-led vocal and choral experimentation;

– collective listening and analysis;

– peer and mentor critique;

– development of documentation and public presentation formats;

– preparation for the on-site residency;

– Q&A.

Stage III. | June 2027

On-Site Residency at the Seventh Bled Contemporary Music Week

The final stage takes place in Bled, Slovenia.

Participants bring their projects into direct relation with the acoustic, spatial, technological, embodied, interpersonal, and public conditions of the festival. The on-site residency remains an active phase of inquiry rather than the simple execution of decisions made in advance.

Projects may require rehearsal, acoustic testing, spatial reconfiguration, technical adjustment, revision of duration, clarification of notation, refinement of vocal material, or reconsideration of audience relation.

Public formats may include performances, lecture-performances, vocal laboratories, artistic research presentations, demonstrations, recordings, documentation, and hybrid forms. Presentation communicates not only a result, but the relations among source, substance, structure, and method.

Stage III includes:

– on-site residency in Bled;

– individual and collective rehearsals;

– acoustic, spatial, technical, and performative testing;

– refinement and realization of participating projects;

– public performances and lecture-performances;

– vocal laboratories and artistic research presentations;

– public discussion and international exchange.
